NCL to enhance onboard experiences with major ship updates

MIAMI — Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has announced significant updates to two of its popular ships, Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Breakaway.

The enhancements include new entertainment and dining options, expanded accommodations and updated recreational spaces, all designed to cater to a variety of traveller preferences.

New Features Aboard Norwegian Bliss

Following a scheduled dry dock from Jan. 17 to Feb. 2, 2025, Norwegian Bliss will debut several new features. A standout addition is Horizon Park, an outdoor gathering space on the top deck featuring sweeping ocean views. This versatile venue offers lawn-style games like cornhole and giant Jenga, along with reclining loungers for sunbathing.

Accommodation updates include the introduction of three-bedroom Premiere Owner’s Suites within The Haven. These suites will feature three and a half bathrooms, a private dining room overlooking The Haven Horizon Lounge and fully refurbished interiors.

Additionally, Norwegian Bliss will add 24 new balcony staterooms and two club balcony staterooms by repurposing part of the Observation Lounge on Deck 15

Dining options aboard Norwegian Bliss will also see enhancements. Due to guest demand, Cagney’s Steakhouse will expand, replacing Los Lobos, while the Teppanyaki restaurant will replace Coco’s. The seafood specialty restaurant Palomar, first introduced on Norwegian Prima, will replace Ocean Blue.

Once updated, Norwegian Bliss will embark on a 13-day voyage from Southampton, U.K., to Miami, followed by Western Caribbean cruises from Miami in February 2025, Mexican Riviera sailings in March and an Alaska cruise season departing from Seattle starting in April 2025.

Industry-First Offerings on Norwegian Breakaway

Norwegian Breakaway is set to undergo enhancements from Feb. 19 to March 14, 2025. The ship will feature the all-new Silver Screen Bistro, a cinema and dining venue where guests can enjoy films while dining on a menu inspired by the global fusion dishes of Food Republic. Silver Screen Bistro, which replaces the Spiegel Tent, will offer oversized recliners and retractable tables for a comfortable, immersive experience.

Like Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Breakaway will also introduce Horizon Park, featuring 360-degree ocean views and an expansive stage for live music and entertainment. Additionally, the ship will debut The Stadium, an outdoor activities area offering family-friendly games, inspired by the Prima Class ships.

Dining updates include an expanded Cagney’s Steakhouse, which will replace Moderno Churrascaria, and the introduction of Palomar in place of Ocean Blue. The Vibe Beach Club and The Haven Sundeck will also be expanded to include more seating and cabanas for enhanced relaxation.

Following its updates, Norwegian Breakaway will sail various European itineraries from Barcelona, Spain, and Venice (Trieste), Italy, visiting destinations like Florence/Pisa, Italy; Palma, Spain; Cannes, France; and Corfu, Greece.

Beyond its European voyages, NCL offers a range of Caribbean and Bahamas cruises from over 10 embarkation ports, including Miami, New York, and San Juan Puerto Rico. These itineraries feature stops at stunning destinations such as St. John’s, Antigua; Bridgetown, Barbados; and the company’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas, which will soon feature a new pier.
