m/s Paul Gauguin in Singapore

m/s Paul Gauguin completes multi-million-dollar refurbishment

TORONTO — Paul Gauguin Cruises has completed a major refurbishment of the 330-guest m/s Paul Gauguin, following a seven-week drydock in Singapore.

The vessel, known for its luxury voyages in French Polynesia, now features transformed spaces, enhanced guest amenities and sustainable upgrades aimed at elevating the onboard experience.

Led by Stirling Design International, the project introduced a contemporary redesign of the popular Le Grill restaurant, a fully reimagined pool deck with an elegant shaded cabana area, eight new connecting staterooms, refreshed soft furnishings throughout the ship and the installation of sustainable technologies.

“We are thrilled to welcome guests aboard the beautifully refurbished m/s Paul Gauguin, which represents our unwavering commitment to excellence and to the constant evolution of the guest experience,” said Hervé Gastinel, CEO & Chief Sustainability Officer of PONANT EXPLORATIONS GROUP. “This transformative project supports our vision of blending elegant design with advanced sustainable technologies, allowing us to reduce our environmental footprint while elevating the immersive discovery our guests treasure. Long a part of the French Polynesian community, The Gauguin continues to deepen our profound connection to this remarkable region and its people.”

Key highlights of the refurbishment include:

Pool Deck

  • Connecting Staterooms: Eight new connecting staterooms on Deck 7 cater to the growing trend of multi-generational travel, complementing the ship’s Moana Explorer Program for children ages six to 15, offered in partnership with Te mana o te moana, the South Pacific’s leading marine education and conservation foundation.
  • Redesigned Le Grill: The ship’s indoor/outdoor dining venue now features white wood screens, ceramic tiles, soft oak furnishings and stylish lighting, creating an elegant backdrop for its renowned culinary offerings.
  • Transformed Pool Deck: A sweeping new white canopy provides shaded, cabana-style seating around the pool, enhanced by a mosaic banner and expanded chaise lounge space.
  • Sustainability Upgrades: New heat recovery systems, efficient chillers, an Organic Rankine Cycle system for energy generation and optimized electric motors significantly reduce the vessel’s energy consumption. Additional eco-friendly initiatives include a seawater treatment system, a Nordaq filtration system to eliminate plastic water bottles and enhanced waste management with a glass crusher and cardboard compactor.
  • Updated Livery: Reflecting its connection to parent company PONANT EXPLORATIONS GROUP, the ship’s stack now features a polished steel, LED-illuminated three-sail logo. Paul Gauguin Cruises’ scripted “P” logo has been added to Deck 8 forward, while the sleek white hull sports new grey accents.

The m/s Paul Gauguin is currently sailing the first of two voyages in its 2025 Boutique Crossing Collection: a 14-night “Immersive Indonesia” journey from Singapore to Australia, followed by a 16-night “Crossing Melanesia” from Australia to Fiji. The ship will return to its year-round presence in French Polynesia in May, offering a selection of all-inclusive luxury voyages ranging from 7-14 nights to the Society Islands, Tuamotus, Cook Islands, and Marquesas.
