Celebrity Cruises to welcome sixth Edge Series ship in 2028

MIAMI — Royal Caribbean Group has ordered another ship to join Celebrity Cruises’ fleet in 2028.

The ship – Celebrity’s sixth in its Edge Series – will be the sister ship to Celebrity Xcel, which will celebrate its inaugural sail later this year. Other Edge Series ships include Celebrity Ascent, Celebrity Beyond, Celebrity Apex and Celebrity Edge – the first ship in the series that was delivered in 2018.

By signing an agreement with Chantiers de l’Atlantique, the company marks another milestone for Celebrity’s Edge Series with what’s being referred to as “Edge 6” or “Xcel 2,” says Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group.

“Celebrity’s Edge Series redefined premium travel at sea, blending groundbreaking design and unforgettable guest experiences. Each ship in this award-winning series has set a new standard for the industry, and Celebrity Xcel, sailing later this year, is no exception,” said Liberty.

Celebrity Cruises’ Edge Series ships feature a vast array of state-of-the-art features, including the iconic Magic Carpet – the world’s first cantilevered, floating platform at sea – and Infinite Veranda staterooms. The new ship will also make room for other yet-to-be-announced innovations.

Said Laura Hodges Bethge, president of Celebrity Cruises: “Celebrity Xcel will take forward the best of Edge Series ships coupled with seven new experiences, all perfected with the help of our recently announced Xcel Dream Makers – and industry-first program enlisting the power of cruisers to make final decisions across culinary, interior design and entertainment.”

Royal Caribbean Group’s new-built pipeline currently includes a total of eight ships on order. In addition to Celebrity Xcel, the company will also welcome Royal Caribbean International’s Star of the Seas this year.
