MIAMI — A dramatic rescue took place over the weekend by Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Valor, which came to the aid of three Hondurans adrift in the Gulf of Mexico.
After responding to a call from the United States Coast Guard (USCG) on Sunday, March 26 about a boat in distress, the Carnival Valor’s crew immediately changed course to provide assistance. At the time, the ship was approximately 35 nautical miles away from the boat in distress.
Three men, all from Honduras, were seen stranded on a small boat. They were rescued using one of Carnival Valor’s lifeboats and welcomed on board. The three men were checked by the ship’s medical personnel and are in good condition, and will be provided food and lodging until Carnival Valor reaches Costa Maya today, March 27.
Carnival Valor’s itinerary is unaffected by the rescue. The ship, which homeports in New Orleans, departed on a five-day cruise on March 25 and will return to Port NOLA on Thursday, March 30.
