SAINT-NAZAIRE — Celebrity Cruises has started construction on its latest ship, Celebrity Xcel, at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard.
The new vessel is part of the Edge Series and will set sail in fall 2025.
The keel laying ceremony marked the beginning of construction, with executives in attendance including Jason Liberty, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, Laura Hodges Bethge, President of Celebrity Cruises, and Laurent Castaing, General Manager of Chantiers de l’Atlantique.
”Today, we start building the foundation for countless memories,” said Liberty. “With Xcel, we are creating our first methanol-capable ship, advancing our journey to net zero.”
Hodges Bethge added: “We look forward to unveiling Celebrity Xcel with guest experiences that confirm ‘Nothing Comes Close’ to a Celebrity vacation. We appreciate the craftsmanship of the Chantiers de l’Atlantique team.”
Celebrity Xcel will feature a tri-fuel capable engine, including methanol, supporting Royal Caribbean Group’s vision for net-zero emissions by 2050.
Celebrity Xcel will debut in November 2025 in the Caribbean, with seven-night itineraries from Fort Lauderdale. Sailings are now open for booking.
