Comp Fund pays out some $50,000

The Travel Industry Council of Onatario’s Board of Directors approved payment of $11,716.08 to assist 16 consumers who did not receive the travel services for which they had paid. The payment was due to the failure of Mexicana Airlines in Mexico. The Board also ratified a decision by the Statutory Director for payments from the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund totalling $39,249.27 to assist 25 consumers as a result of the failure of Executive Worldwide Travel in Ottawa. The payments were approved under the immediate departure provisions of Ontario Regulation 26/05 made under the Ontario Travel Industry Act, 2002. The Board also denied seven claims totalling $18,668.70 due to insufficient documentation to support a claim.
