The Travel Industry Council of Ontario’s Board of Directors approved payment of $17,169.74 to assist 27 consumers who did not receive the travel services for which they had paid. The payment from the Compensation Fund was due to the closure of Mexicana Airlines in Mexico ($14,482.84); Sky Asia Travel in Toronto ($1,476.74) and Smartchoice Travel & Tours in Toronto ($1,210.16). The Board denied one claim as it was based on a non-refundable amount for travel services that were available to be received and not received due to the customer’s action or failure to act.
