Cleanup underway at Club Med Punta Cana after fire

MONTREAL — Cleanup efforts are underway at Club Med Punta Cana after the popular D.R. resort experienced a fire yesterday.

Gary Lawrence, editor of Profession Voyages (part of The Travelweek Group) reached out to Club Med’s Montreal office and received this statement from Club Med.

“Early in the morning of September 12, 2024, a fire broke out in the Club Med Punta Cana Village Center.

“Although the Village Center sustained significant damage, no rooms were affected. Thanks to the responsiveness and efficiency of our on-site team and local authorities, the fire was quickly contained and extinguished.

“No serious injuries were reported, but one guest sustained a minor injury during the evacuation and is currently receiving all necessary medical care.

“The village team offers all the support and comfort required to our employees and guests. The majority of on-site activities as well as the Hispaniola restaurant are open for the enjoyment of our guests.

“However, in order to guarantee the highest level of service and comfort, Club Med has offered our guests currently in the village to end their vacation at our neighbouring village, Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda.”

The company adds that Club Med teams are on site and assessing the necessary repairs.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
