HONOLULU — A Hawaii man was surfing with his girlfriend when instead of hanging 10, he knelt down on one knee on his board and proposed.

Multiple photographers were able to capture the moment Chris Garth pulled off the stunt of a lifetime. They also snapped his girlfriend, Lauren Oiye, looking shocked, open-mouthed, surfing mid-wave alongside Garth.

According to Hawaii News Now, Oiye said yes – just before Garth dropped the ring in the ocean.

Fear not, romantics – he had a spare.

Garth said he knew the stunt could go sideways fast, so he used a stand-in ring while they were out in the water. The real ring was on shore at Queen’s Beach in Waikiki, where the two met years before.

Romantic and rational – a winning combo! Congratulations!
