LOS ANGELES — On Hollywood’s biggest night, Disney made its presence felt by airing three teaser commercials for the brand new Toy Story Land.
All of the commercials aired during the 90th Academy Awards on Sunday night. The first one features the iconic Pixar ball rolling down the streets of San Francisco, across a film studio in Los Angeles, and through the American Midwest on its way to Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, where it will have its grand opening on June 30, 2018. The 30-second clip ends with the tag line “Something Big Is Coming”.
In the second commercial, the ball is seen falling over Niagara Falls, skipping across New York City’s Central Park, startling a dog walker in downtown Manhattan and is eventually joined by a huge Slinky the Dog, who had a starring role in the ‘Toy Story’ film franchise. The clip ends with the words ‘Get Ready To Play Big’, a nod to the new land’s playful ambience.
In the final clip, the ball and Slinky trudge past a passenger train, trail behind a family sedan after crossing the Florida border, and finally make their way to Toy Story Land where Woody, everyone’s favourite cowboy, greets them with a hearty salute. The clip ends with the tag line “Play Big”, and encourages viewers to #FollowTheBall on Twitter.
Last week, Travelweek reported that the new Toy Story Land will span 11 acres and feature two new attractions: Slinky Dog Dash, a family-friendly roller coaster, and Alien Swirling Saucers, featuring the film’s adorable green aliens. Other fun features include lampposts that resemble Tinker Toys, over 400 toy blocks integrated into the land, and life-sized green army men roaming about.
