Carnival Cruise Line to debut third roller coaster at sea

MIAMI — What better way for Carnival Cruise Line to celebrate National Roller Coaster Day than by launching its third sea coaster?

The cruise line is preparing to welcome its third ‘BOLT: Ultimate Sea Coaster’ atop its next new ship, Carnival Jubilee. The ship, which celebrated its float out last month at Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany, will sail year round on week-long Western Caribbean itineraries beginning on Dec. 23, 2023 from Galveston, Texas.

This week at Meyer Werft, where the ship is under construction, the roller coaster’s 800-foot track is being installed on Deck 19, a process that is expected to be completed next month, with test runs scheduled for October.

Once complete, the track will carry two all-electric, two-person cars. Riders are able to control the speed of the car, up to 40 miles per hour, through drops, twists and turns 187 feet above the water line.

BOLT is the centrepiece of the ‘Ultimate Playground’ on Carnival’s three Excel-class ships. More than 150,000 guests have already experienced the only roller coasters at sea on Carnival Jubilee’s sister ships, Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration.
