Cape Breton man jailed for endangering the safety of a flight

SYDNEY, N.S. — A Cape Breton man has been sentenced to 67 days in jail after pleading guilty to endangering the safety of a flight.

Ekkian Misel Googoo entered the plea for the offence that occurred on May 1.

The Air Canada flight was en route from Halifax to Happy Valley-Goose Bay and was filled to capacity.

The court was told that the 30-year-old from Eskasoni was intoxicated and failed to take directions from the flight attendants.

At one point, he pushed a flight attendant into a service cart, claiming he needed to go to the washroom.

He was sentenced to 30 days and fined $3,068.

Googoo told the court he preferred to do time as opposed to paying the fine and was given an additional 37 days behind bars.
