Canadian visits overseas down 6.5% in September

OTTAWA — Travel from Canada to overseas countries fell 6.5% to 956,000 trips in September, according to Statistics Canada.

Canadian residents made 3.5 million trips to the United States in September, down 1.9% compared with August. The decrease was mainly due to a 3.9% decline in same-day car trips to the United States.

In the other direction, travel from the United States to Canada was relatively unchanged from August.

Residents of overseas countries made 477,000 trips to Canada in September, up 3.6% from August. The gain was mainly attributable to a 10.2% increase in visitors from China.
