TORONTO — Looking to get a foothold in the market as the summer weeks fly by, Canada Jetlines has been able to open reservations on its first two routes – Toronto-Moncton and Toronto-Winnipeg – before receiving its license.
Canada Jetlines got its stage 1 licensing approval from the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) in March 2022, days before the unveiling of the company’s first A320 at an industry event at Waterloo Airport this past spring. Stage 2 approval came in May 2022.
The formal CTA commercial license will come following the issuance of the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) by Transport Canada. Canada Jetlines says tickets are being sold pursuant to an exemption from the application of section 59 of the Canada Transportation Act. The exemption allows Canada Jetlines to sell tickets for air travel prior to issuance of its license.
The company adds that Canada Jetlines air service is subject to the Canadian Transportation Agency’s approval, and that all prospective passengers will be informed, before a reservation is made or a ticket is issued, that the air service is subject to the Canadian Transportation Agency’s approval.
“Canada Jetlines is fully staffed and ready to fly. As a start-up during the pandemic, we emphasize preparation and collaboration and are currently equipped to accommodate and welcome guests to travel with us,” says CEO Eddy Doyle. “Our team is particularly appreciative of the ongoing support from the various government agencies who have been incredible to work with throughout our journey.”
Canada Jetlines’s tour operator division, Canada Jetlines Vacations, has also gotten the green light from TICO.
TRAVEL AGENT INCENTIVES
Tickets are now available for sale for the Toronto-Moncton and Toronto-Winnipeg routes, for departures from Aug. 15, 2022, onwards.
Travel agents who enroll with Canada Jetlines can earn up to 10% commission on all base fares when contracted directly with Canada Jetlines.
Plus, Canada Jetlines is celebrating its launch with a ticket giveaway exclusively for travel agents. All advisors who register before Dec. 22, 2022 will automatically be entered into the contest to win one of 174 airline tickets for life to any destination the airline flies to at the time of ticket redemption.
Advisors can register by clicking here. For information regarding sales contracts they can email the company directly at TAregistration@jetlines.ca.
“The entire team at Canada Jetlines is excited to finally accept ticket bookings. We’ve worked incredibly hard to reach this milestone and are overjoyed to begin delivering a new leisure airline experience for Canadian travellers,” says Duncan Bureau, Canada Jetlines’ Chief Commercial Officer.
The airline has long stated its intention to work with travel agents. At the unveiling of the company’s first A320 this past spring, Bureau reiterated the airline’s focus on travel agents and the trade: “We are very focused on our relationship with the travel trade. We believe you are going to help us make this a very successful airline. And we thank all travel agents for the work that they’re doing.”
In October 2021 Canada Jetlines announced its partnership with Softvoyage. The tech provider will give Jetlines’ customers access to hotels, attractions, air packages and other ancillary travel services. It will also provide the airline with distribution via the group’s network, both on a B2B and B2C basis.
Canada Jetlines aims to fly routes within Canada as well as to the U.S., Cuba, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Antigua, Bahamas and other Caribbean destinations.
