Brightline to become Virgin Trains USA

Brightline assigned IATA designator code BE

MIAMI — Florida rail system Brightline now has its own IATA designator code: BE.

This code within the IATA system will allow Brightline to expand its reach through interline and codeshare arrangements with airlines worldwide, while also simplifying sales through travel agencies and tour operators via the GDS, says the train company.

By using the BE code, Brightline can be listed alongside airlines in booking systems, allowing travel advisors and their clients to seamlessly plan and purchase combined air and rail journeys.

Brightline expanded service to Orlando in September 2023. The intercity rail service connecting travellers to top destinations and major events between Central and South Florida has downtown stations in West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Aventura and Miami, as well as MCO.

Here’s a look at the benefits of the new IATA designation, point by point …

  • Interline and codeshare partnerships: With its IATA code, Brightline can now engage in interline and codeshare agreements with airlines, creating a seamless booking experience for passengers who wish to travel from one destination to another using both air and rail
  • GDS participation: The BE code allows Brightline to be available in GDS platforms used by travel agencies and tour operators around the world, making it easier for customers to book combined travel options
  • Simplified travel booking: Customers will be able to see and book Brightline journeys directly through airline and travel agency platforms

“With our new ‘BE’ code, we are expanding our network to provide travelers with greater flexibility, connectivity, and convenience” said Brightline’s CCO Travis Christ. “Brightline is becoming a key component of the multimodal travel experience in Florida, helping customers get where they need to go, whether it’s connecting with a flight at Orlando International Airport or enjoying a quick journey to South Florida. We look forward to working with our airline partners, travel agencies, and tour operators to make travel simpler, easier, and more connected.”
