SATA Group reaches one million passenger milestone for 2023 in just six months

Azores celebrates new routes, including Toronto to Funchal and Porto

TORONTO — Azores Airlines has announced new routes between Europe and North America starting this month.

A set of new direct flights kicks off in June, including ones from North America to Porto and Funchal, from the Azores (Ponta Delgada) to the Algarve (Faro), and from the Azores (Ponta Delgada) to Italy (Milan).

Direct flights between Toronto and Funchal kicked off on June 1, and will be followed by flights between New York and Porto, and between Ponta Delgada and Faro. On June 4, direct flights from Porto to Boston and from Boston to Funchal will begin. The following day, on June 5, the airline will launch flights between Ponta Delgada and Milan, while June 7 will see the launch of direct flights between Toronto and Porto.

In addition to these inaugurations, the airline is also reopening connections between the Azores (Ponta Delgada) and London with two weekly flights.

The new flights come at a time of high demand for the Azores among travellers, with the summer season expected to surpass the demand recorded in 2023, says the airline. This summer, as a result of anticipated demand, Azores Airlines is increasing its regular flights by approximately 26% (domestic and international), compared to last year’s IATA summer season.

“The new bets are the result of concerted efforts with several agents and business partners,” said Graça Silva, Director of Sales, Marketing and Communication. “It provides more options for passengers who want to reach the Azores and more opportunities for those who wish to travel between Europe and North America. These investments will consolidate the sustained growth trajectory seen at the airline in recent years.”

In addition to offering direct flights, the airline’s operations include connectivity between destinations in North America and Europe either through a brief stopover in the Azores, or through the Azores Stopover program, which allows for a longer stay of up to seven days, or an intermediate stopover before arriving at the final destination.
