SANTO DOMINGO — Low cost carrier Arajet says it flew more than half a million passengers in the first six months of the year.
According to data published by the Civil Aviation Board of the Dominican Republic
(JAC), Arajet flew some 399,000 passengers from January to June.
Added to the more than 120,000 passengers in connections, the total by Arajet’s reckoning is some 520,000 passengers in the first half of the year.
Based on these figures and future projects, Arajet estimates it will fly about 1,100,000 passengers in 2024.
The carrier is expanding with new routes and the beginning of operations at Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) on Nov. 1, to increase its network of destinations and connections.
According to the JAC’s report of D.R. airline traffic in June, Arajet had the highest passenger movement in its nearly two years of operations.
Arajet launched its seasonal routes to Canada in fall 2023. Arajet’s direct flights from Toronto to Santo Domingo started Oct. 24, 2023, with Montreal service effective Nov. 7
In an interview with Travelweek, the airline’s CEO and founder, Victor Pacheco, said the goal is to have daily flights year-round from YYZ and YUL.
