EDMONTON — A new Instagram account launched by Travel Alberta highlights popular hiking trails in the Canadian Rockies.
Featuring captioned photos of hikes from trailhead to summit, InstaHikes is intended “to assist, inspire and inform travellers,” says the agency, which has made Instagram a key part of its social media marketing strategy.
Five trails will be initially profiled, two in Banff National Park (Johnston Canyon Ice Walk and Larch Meadows) and three in Jasper National Park (Cavell Meadows, Sulphur Skyline and Maligne Canyon), with more to be added later. Maps show each hike’s distance, duration and difficulty.
Travellers can scroll through the photos to get an immediate feel for each adventure, says Travel Alberta CEO Royce Chwin.
