Porter boosts NYC presence with new LaGuardia flights from Toronto Pearson

TORONTO — Porter Airlines is coming into LaGuardia Airport’s recently renovated Terminal B with new year-round service from Toronto Pearson starting in May 2025.

The new flights, operating out of YYZ to LGA effective May 1, expand Porter’s footprint in New York City.

The airline has been on a massive expansion run since January 2023, when it debuted its first of many E195-E2 jet aircraft on several new routes. Porter first announced its expansion plans in July 2021. As of October 2024, Porter is now the second-largest airline operating flights to the U.S. and Canada from Toronto Pearson.

Year over year from October 2023 to October 2024, Porter increased its workforce from 1,500 to 3,900+ employees, and expanded its fleet with delivery of 20 new E195-E2 aircraft for a total of 42 out of a planned order of 100. Porter’s fleet now includes 71 aircraft, including 29 De Havilland Dash 8-400s.

Porter will offer up to three daily roundtrips between YYZ and LaGuardia’s new Terminal B, the beneficiary of a US$5.1 billion renovation.

“We are excited to add Porter Airlines’ service to Toronto Pearson at LaGuardia Airport. This expanded partnership strengthens our growing network and provides travellers with a seamless and convenient way to connect between New York and Canada,” said Tony Vero, GM, LaGuardia Airport.

The new flights are as follows …

Passengers can connect through YYZ to LGA via Porter’s domestic network including Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montréal, Ottawa, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Vancouver.

Porter’s interline partnership with JetBlue offers passengers flying into LGA onward connections across the southern U.S.

Andrew Pierce, Porter’s VP Network Planning and Reporting, says the new YYZ-LGA flights complement Porter’s existing operations at EWR. Porter has been serving the New York-New Jersey market since 2008 with flights from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport to Newark. In 2023, Porter expanded its Newark service by adding flights from Ottawa International Airport (YOW). The combined routings will offer up to 15 daily roundtrips.

“We have built a strong passenger base over more than 15 years for those travelling between Canada and the New York metropolitan area. The addition of LaGuardia introduces a new dimension to our network, opening more options for existing customers and the ability to attract new ones within the busiest air service corridor connecting Canada and the U.S.,” said Pierce.
