New look for St. Maarten’s Princess Juliana Int’l Airport

TORONTO — Princess Juliana International Airport in St. Maarten (SXM), following the opening of its new departure hall, has also unveiled new check-in areas.

The departure hall and check-in areas are now ready to welcome all passengers. The departure hall spans more than 10,000 square metres, and has been designed for future growth for 2.5 million annual passengers. The check-in area is equipped for oversized luggage and also offers hybrid self-bag drops.

The upgrades mark a significant milestone in the airport rebuild following the devastation of Hurricane Irma in 2017.

“It is through resilience, dedication, and hard work that we have achieved remarkable results for this airport and our nation,” said the Prime Minister of Sint Maarten, Silveria Jacobs. “Together with all the stakeholders, we have soared beyond obstacles in transforming this airport. Today shows the spirit of our resilient nation that strives for greatness. As we celebrate our achievements today, let us continue to forge ahead, fueled by the belief that with perseverance, there are no limits to what we can accomplish together for our beloved nation. I want to say thank you to all Saint Martiners, big and small who contributed to this project.”

SXM’s reopening will shift to its second phase in the next few months, with the construction of an upgraded Arrival Hall. Construction of the Arrival Hall is anticipated to be finalized by Q2 2024.
