TORONTO — Wintry weather continues to impact travel in and out of the Prairies, after heavy snows and fierce winds grounded flights and closed highways over the weekend.

In Saskatoon, poor visibility and wind resulted in the cancellation of approximately 30 flights as of Sunday morning.

However despite blowing snow and frigid temperatures today, a check on Saskatoon airport’s list of arrivals and departures shows that the majority of flights scheduled to take off and land this morning are so far operating and on time.

It’s the same situation in Regina, where YQR arrivals and departures are generally operating as scheduled so far with the exception of WestJet service in and out of Puerto Vallarta.

Meanwhile in Manitoba, flights in and out of Winnipeg are more of a mixed bag, with several delays and cancellations listed at YWG’s site.

Thousands were left without power on Sunday in Winnipeg and other communities.

This morning Winnipeg Airport posted on X: “Winter storms that swept across the prairies this weekend continue to impact flights. Remember to check the status of your flight before leaving home. If your travel plans have been affected, keep a close eye out for emails and other important updates from your airline.”

AIR TRAVEL CHANGE AND CANCELLATION POLICIES

Several airlines have activated flexible change and cancellation policies in the wake of the winter weather.

Air Canada’s policy applies to flights in and out of Regina, Saskatoon and Winnipeg today, March 4.

WestJet’s policy, which kicked in March 2 and is valid until today, March 4, applies to Regina, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Calgary.

Porter has activated its policy for Winnipeg, as well as for several more cities (Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto – YYZ and YTZ, and Vancouver) for poor visibility reasons, all for March 4.
