Airline seat capacity from Canada is up, says Los Cabos

LOS CABOS — Los Cabos is ready to welcome more Canadians this season thanks to an increase in direct flights.

According to the Los Cabos Tourism Board, airline seat capacity from Canada is projected to reach 1.24 million for the remainder of the year, reflecting a 3% increase over the same period in 2023. Canada is the destination’s second largest international market after the United States.

Across the country this year, visits from Vancouver are leading the way with 42% of flights originating from the city, followed by Calgary at 25%, Toronto at 15% and Edmonton at 9%. Plus, with a direct flight starting in December by Air Canada, visits originating from Montreal are expected to rise dramatically.

Travel advisors continue to play a pivotal role in driving growth, with 30% of visitors booking through them.

NEW OFFERINGS

Already well known as a golf destination, Los Cabos will be welcoming four new courses over the next two years, in addition to 700 additional hotel rooms as part of a US$700 million investment. Notable upcoming hotel openings include the 70-room Tropicana Los Cabos, Tapestry Collection by Hilton and, coming next year, Soho House Los Cabos, St. Regis Los Cabos at Quivira, and Park Hyatt Los Cabos at Cabo del Sol. The Grand Hyatt and Amanvari are scheduled to open in 2026.

Culinary experiences are also evolving with the arrival of the first Michelin guide for Mexico this year. New food-focussed experiences are popping up that appeal to luxury travellers, including Monte Cardon, set on a stunning 15-acre desert property and featuring an open-air, 12-seat restaurant ideal for special events and weddings. Among its signature experiences is a four-hour, hands-on cooking class that emphasizes season ingredients and a slow-food philosophy. Other new foodie offerings include Amet Nature Retreat in Santiago featuring culinary experiences led by Chef Casiano Reyes; Delphine Day Club at the Four Seasons Costa Palmas; Materia Pastry Boutique in San José del Cabo; Speakeasy in Chileno Bay; and Alma Bar in Esperanza at Auberge Resorts.
