BANFF, Alta. — Brewster Travel Canada says work will begin this fall on a $26-million redevelopment of its upper terminal building at the Banff Gondola.
The project, the company’s largest in recent years, will include the addition of a 40-seat cinema, a conference space for weddings and corporate events, an expanded rooftop viewing deck, new food and beverage outlets and improved washroom facilities.
Construction will begin Sept. 8, when the building will close to the public. The gondola will continue to operate and the Banff SummitWalk will remain accessible until Oct. 25.
Completion of the project is expected by August 2016, Brewster said.
Scheduling of the work has been planned to ensure “minimal impact” on the wildlife of Sulphur Mountain, the company said.
