Lose weight. Exercise more. Work smarter. Be more grateful. Take more time for myself.
Ah, those recurring New Year’s Resolutions.
It’s that time of year when so many of us resolve to do something better (or different) in the new year. Can any resolutions involve our careers as independent travel advisors?
Here are a few that are not only easy to keep but should also deliver results.
Sharpen your selling skills. Whether it’s interviewing the client, capitalizing on the business you already have (referrals) or narrowing your focus onto your host agency’s preferred supplier list, you’ll find you are more efficient and effective.
Thank people. Our lives are so rushed, we often forget to thank partners, our support staff, and our colleagues. If you value expressions of thanks, then you know how wonderful a little email – or handwritten note – can make people feel.
Get up and Get Out. Ever feel trapped at your desk? Schedule time to get away from your keyboard for some fresh air, thinking time, even social time. Promise, it’s worth its weight in gold for your mental health.
Listen to your Host. They are, I can assure you, doing their best to score the best partner relationships, commissions, tools and resources to help you succeed. Participate in the webinars, attend conferences and meetings. In short, be engaged with your host.
Stay in touch with your clients. Remember, if you’re not marketing to them, someone else is. Be sure to communicate just before they’re departing and don’t ever forget the post travel connection on how their trip was, what could be better/different; ideas for their next trip …
Reward yourself. As an independent advisor, you are your own cheering section. Set goals – and rewards when you reach them. Your positivity will be contagious!
