Cafe du Monde

2. The original French Market coffee stand

When walking through the French Market, you will come across a long lineup. This is how you know you have come to Café du Monde. The café has been serving their famous beignets and café au lait since 1862. The beignet – designated Louisiana’s “official state doughnut” in 1986 – is caked in icing sugar (and you might be too afterwards). It goes perfectly with café au lait, which is coffee with chicory and half hot milk.

If you’re not a fan of lineups, you can visit the location in the outlet malls on the Riverwalk or go later at night after a ghost tour, when it’s quieter.

Fun fact: Café du Monde was the most Instagrammed restaurant in all of America in 2016.
