Day two starts with a walking tour of the Strip District with Burgh Bits & Bites Food Tours, discovering a neighbourhood of independent businesses, ethnic markets and shops. From fresh produce to Black and Gold memorabilia, visitors can find many places to explore, including a visit to Wigle Distillery, the first whiskey distillery to open in Pennsylvania in decades and now award-winning for its craft rye whiskey.
The afternoon is spent learning about the city’s history at the Senator John Heinz History Center, for exhibits such as Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, featuring native son Fred Rogers, as well all about the city’s best-known food company: The H.J. Heinz Company.
The evening is spent in the welcoming confines of the Fairmont Pittsburgh. Opened in 2010, the LEED-certified building was part of the revival of the neighbourhood, and features antiques from previous businesses in glass cases throughout the hotel, as well as modern art from local artists, including Andy Warhol prints in the Habitat dining room, which features an eclectic international menu.
