Intrepid launches new tours to Pakistan

TORONTO — Intrepid Travel is heading to Pakistan for the first time, with a new expedition trip launching this year.

The 17-day ‘Pakistan Expedition’ launches at a time of immense growth for the emerging destination, which saw visitors double between 2018 and 2019.

Priced from $4,190 per person, the new tour begins in the capital of Islamabad and ends in Lahore, travelling through the remote Karakoram Mountains along the way. Highlights include a 4WD excursion to Khunjerab National Park in search of snow leopards and the rare Marco Polo sheep, a visit to the World Heritage-listed ancient site of Taxila, a homestay with a local family in Gulmit, a meet-and-greet with a local women’s group created by the Aga Khan Foundation, and shopping within the walled city of Lahore at Akbari Mandi.

Guests will also visit the point where three of the world’s largest mountain ranges – the Himalaya, Karakoram and Hindu Kush – meet, and explore Lawrence Gardens, now known as Bagh-e-Jinnah, which includes a botanical garden, an open-air theatre and a historic cricket ground.

As with all Intrepid Travel tours, each trip is carbon-offset on behalf of every traveler and are designed to have a low environmental footprint while having a positive impact on local communities.

“We’re always looking to develop experiences that will get travelers out of their comfort zones, to break new ground and to broaden their horizons,” said Tara Kennaway, Senior Product Manager – Operations, Intrepid Travel. “We’re excited to be providing the global community with access to Pakistan, one of the world’s few countries that remain under-the-radar with tourists.”

The expedition will run twice in 2020 from August 17-September 2, 2020 and September 2-18, 2020, with two additional departures scheduled in 2021.
