Eurostar cancellations Dec. 5 – 10 with France rail strike

PARIS — The latest strike in France, a rail workers strike scheduled to start tomorrow, Dec. 5, will disrupt rail service across the country including Eurostar.

France’s rail operator, SNCF, and the Paris Metro say nationwide strikes will wipe out most services Thursday, impacting millions.

The SNCF expects that nine out of 10 high-speed trains won’t run and that half of the Eurostar services linking France and Britain will be cancelled too.

Paris region trains will also be severely disrupted by the strikes against government plans to reform the state pension system.

Most Metro lines in the capital will be shut, with services limited to just two automated lines and with reduced service on three other lines.

Agents and clients can check for cancellations at the Service Update page at Eurostar’s website, and exchange or refund tickets.

“The strike action will impact our ability to deliver the usual timetable as we expect disruption to signaling along all routes. As a result, we will now run a reduced timetable from Dec. 5 – 10.”

Eurostar says ticket exchanges during the strike period are possible, “although availability is very limited. We do still advise that you travel outside of the strike period.”

Eurostar also reminds travellers that “should you choose to travel between the 5 December and 10 December, we would ask you to check the likely impact for your journey, including any onward connection, before making your exchange”, noting that there will be major disruption to Metro and RER services in Paris and connecting trains to all destinations within France.
