ROCHESTER, N.Y. — An airport security worker in New York has been fired for handing a passenger a handwritten note that said “You ugly!!!”
The June incident came to light this week after passenger Neal Strassner obtained security video through a public records request and posted it to YouTube.
He wrote: “As I was recently traveling through Rochester NY airport, a security guard passed me a random insulting note. This video was obtained by a freedom of information request I did. It shows the woman in the lower left passing notes and creating more from pieces of the glove box at the end of the video.”
About 40 seconds into the video, the woman is seen reaching off screen to grab a piece of paper from the table. After motioning for a female passenger ahead of Strassner to pass through the metal detector, she then hands him the note.
Strassner says he didn’t think much of it and continued toward his gate. That’s when he says the woman yelled out: “You gonna open the note?”
Strassner says that when he did, the woman burst out laughing.
On his return trip back to Rochester, he complained to her supervisors.
The Transportation Security Administration says the woman worked for a contractor. The agency says it has “zero tolerance for this type of behaviour.”
