MIAMI — A deal has been reached between Carnival Corporation and federal prosecutors after the cruise company was charged with six probation violations following a 2016 conviction for environmental crimes.

Miami federal judge Patricia Seitz will review the deal, the details of which have not been released, on June 3. She can either accept the deal or reject it and set a probation revocation hearing for a later date.

Carnival Corp. has served two years of a five-year probation period as part of a US$40 million settlement for illegally dumping oil into the ocean from its Princess Cruises ships, and then lying about it afterward.

In March, Seitz was alerted by a probation officer that the company had violated its probation in 2017 by falsifying records, dumping food waste into Bahamian waters, and preparing ships ahead of visits by a court-appointed monitor. She then threatened to temporarily block Carnival Corp. ships from docking at U.S. ports.
