VANCOUVER — Canada Jetlines says its launch date for commercial service is now targeted for Dec. 17, 2019.

While the would-be ultra low-cost carrier has made a flurry of announcements about gateways and destinations in recent months, it has yet to get off the ground and has now delayed its launch again.

Back in 2015 the ULCC was aiming to start service in Western Canada. A couple of years later it was touting June 2018 as the start date. Those plans folded too with a March 2018 announcement.

Most recently the airline was targeting a summer 2019 launch.

If Canada Jetlines ever does take flight it will face competition from LCCs that already have a toehold in the market, including Air Canada Rouge, Swoop and Flair.

Meanwhile at least two LCCs serving the transatlantic market from Canadian gateways, Primera and WOW Air, have ceased operations.

Canada Jetlines says it plans to operate flights across Canada and provide nonstop service from Canada to the U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean, to sun spots including Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, Puerto Plata and Samana.
