RIVIERAY MAYA — Construction is officially underway on AMResorts’ new Breathless Cancun Resort & Spa, the third Breathless-branded property in Mexico.
A groundbreaking ceremony was presided over by Carlos Joaquín Gonzaléz, the Governor of the State of Quintana Roo, who helped place the customary first stone. He was joined by Alex Zozaya, CEO of parent company Apple Leisure Group (ALG) and several prominent dignitaries, including Mara Lezama, Mayor of the Municipality of Benito Juárez, and Marisol Venegas, Secretary of Tourism of the State of Quintan a Roo.
During the ceremony, Gonzaléz noted that the project will create more than 3,000 direct and indirect jobs. “Working together to generate major investments for the benefit of the local population result in a better quality of life for the people,” he said.
Zozaya also commented on the state of tourism today: “Despite the challenges that continue to impact the tourism industry in Mexico, ALG maintains its commitment to Cancun and other destinations in the country. We remain loyal to our goal of attracting investment for new projects that will create jobs and economic benefits in these regions, and the Breathless Cancun Resort & Spa is a great example of this.”
Located in the Cancun Hotel Zone, the new resort is the result of a US$160 million investment and will comprise 429 guestrooms and suites. It will also feature the brand’s iconic ‘Unlimited-Luxury’ vacation concept where everything is included, all without wristbands.
The resort is scheduled to open in summer 2021.
