Swoop celebrates sold-out inaugural flight to Montego Bay

CALGARY — It was a sold out flight for Swoop yesterday, which launched its first international flight from Hamilton to Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The flight departed John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport on Dec. 16 at 8:00 a.m. EST and arrived in Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay at 12:10 p.m. EST. Travellers were greeted upon landing in MoBay with a celebratory water arch and live entertainment.

Several dignitaries, including Laurie J. Peters, Canadian High Commissioner to Jamaica, were on hand to welcome the inaugural flight.

“I am extremely delighted to welcome Swoop Inc. on the occasion of the airline’s inaugural flight to Montego Bay, Jamaica,” said Peters. “The introduction of Swoop’s service is another demonstration of the long-standing and extensive aviation linkages between Canada and Jamaica and a true example of the close people-to-people ties between both countries.”

Karen McIssac, Senior Advisor of Communications at Swoop, added: “Today marks yet another significant layer of Swoop’s history. Swoop is heading the charge to make international travel more affordable than ever before.”

Swoop began operations in June with domestic service and has since added U.S. destinations to Florida and Las Vegas. This new connection, said Cathie Puckering, President & CEO of John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, “is sure to excite Canadians eager to escape the cold winter months ahead.”

Flights are available for booking through to April 27, 2019.
