QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA — Imagine spending countless hours and money planning an epic cruise vacation with the entire family, only to be showed up by your pet bird who landed its own luxury cruise all on its own.

Harri, a rose-breasted female cockatoo who lives in Nundah, Queensland, Australia, was accidentally set free from her cage while her family was packing for a cruise vacation. Michelle and Brett Cozzi and their four-year-old daughter Georgia were devastated, and despite their best efforts they were unable to track the bird down. They boarded their P&O Cruise ship a few days later with heavy hearts, convinced they’d never see their beloved Harri again.

But little did they know that while they were sailing onboard P&O Cruises, Harri was living it up on her own cruise ship heading straight for New Zealand. Turns out after escaping from her cage, the adventurous bird somehow made its way to sea, only to be found by the Sea Princess, which is part of the Princess Cruises’ fleet and sister line to P&O.

We suppose ol’ Harri was struck by a sudden case of wanderlust.

Crew members scanned Harri for a microchip and quickly discovered the bird was the family pet. They welcomed Harri to join them for the remainder of the cruise, putting her up in her own stateroom, giving her daily meals and even awarding her with a laminated crew identification card.

Meanwhile, the Cozzi family, who at this time was still sailing on their P&O cruise, received word from Australian Agriculture Department officials that their beloved Harri had not only been found, but was on her own cruise adventure to New Zealand.

Once back on land and awaiting her return, the Cozzis learned of Harri’s fantastic journey. During her 14-day New Zealand cruise odyssey, she was cared for by Sea Princess Environmental Officer Tibor Filipovic and the ship’s Master, Princess Cruises Commodore Giuseppe Romano.

“The entire ship’s company has come to love Harri and she has been a very good shipmate and no trouble at all,” said Commodore Romano. “But we could also see that Harri was missing her human family, so it was a great pleasure to be able to reunite them.”

As the journey came to an end, the Cozzis had Harri’s birdcage delivered to the terminal where Sea Princess docked, and then waited patiently while she receive a pre-disembarkation veterinary check, which she passed with flying colours.

“We are very excited to have Harri home because she is a much loved member and indispensable part of our family,” said Michelle Cozzi. “We’d hoped for her safe return but after Harri had been gone for a few days, it wasn’t looking good. It was amazing to discover she had been found on another cruise ship. It was just the best news possible.”

No word as to where Harri’s next travel adventure will take her, but let’s hope she uses a travel agent to avoid any future mishaps.
