LEIPZIG, GERMANY — The world is beautiful, especially when seen through the lens of a camera. And judging by the winning photo of the world’s biggest open photo competition, its beauty is limitless.
Janne Kahila of Finland submitted the winning photo of the ‘Our World is beautiful’ photo competition, which garnered more than 183,000 submissions from over 22,000 entrants. The competition, which was organized by commercial online printing partner CEWE, awarded Kahila with the CEWE Photo Award for his stunning shot of the Faroe Islands titled ‘Cliff of Kallur’.
What impressed the jury most was that Kahila managed to compress an overwhelming landscape into an image by way of photographic means, allowing observers to experience the full magnificence of the scene.
Entrants were asked to submit photos in the categories of ‘Sport’, ‘People’, ‘Landscapes’, ‘Architecture’, ‘Transport and Infrastructure’ and ‘Nature’. Dr. Christian Friege, Chairman of the CEWE Board of Management, honoured the six winners in their category and presented the CEWE Photo Award to the overall winner, Kahila.
Of his winning photo, Kahila said: “We all have our favourite places somewhere on eart, where we most like to be. My favourite place is the tip of Kalsoy Island in the Faroe Islands.”
In 2018, ‘Our world is beautiful’ will be taken into the next round. Those who are interested can stay up to date at cewe-fotobuch.de/wettbewerbe/fotowettbewerbe
