ZURICH — Switzerland has just soared to the top of every foodie’s bucket list now that it has discovered natural pink chocolate.
According to Lonely Planet, Zurich-based Barry Callebaut, a manufacturer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa products, debuted ruby chocolate at a recent launch event in Shanghai, China. Made from the ruby cocoa bean, the chocolate maintains the bean’s fresh berry flavour and naturally rosy pink hue.
“We’re looking forward to working with our partners on introducing this innovative breakthrough to the market, and making the new ruby chocolate category available to chocolate manufacturers and consumers around the world as the fourth reference next to dark, milk and white chocolate,” said Peter Boone, Barry Calelbaut’s chief innovation & quality officer.
The cocoa beans are sourced from the Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador and Brazil. It’s expected that ruby chocolate will come in different product categories – here’s hoping that pink truffles and pink chocolate bars will come soon!
