TORONTO — We all know that New York ranks among the most expensive cities in America to live in. But to travel to? It doesn’t even rank in the top 10.

According to the latest survey from CheapHotels.org, the Big Apple is nowhere to be seen on a list of the 10 most expensive destinations in the U.S. this spring. Cities that did make the list, however, will surprise you.

Coming in first place is Charleston, South Carolina, where an overnight guest will have to spend an average US$241 per night for a hotel room. Nashville, TN and Napa, CA round out the top three, with nightly rates of $237 and $234, respectively, for their most affordable room.

The survey compared all major U.S. destinations based on their average hotel cost during the months of April and May. For comparative purposes, the survey established the minimum price travellers will have to pay to stay in each destination’s cheapest available double room.

Only those hotels and inns with a central location and with an overall rating of three stars or more were considered.
