If your love of tacos borderlines on obsession and you’ve got cash to burn, you’re looking at a whopping $25,000 for the chance to wolf down what’s been dubbed “the world’s most expensive taco.” Chump change, we say, for a small bite of culinary nirvana, which has been dreamed up and dished out by the new Grand Velas Los Cabos Resort.

So what goes into a $25,000 taco, you ask? The simple answer is everything your taste buds desire. Decadent ingredients include langoustine, Kobe beef, Almas Beluga caviar and black truffle brie cheese, all served on a gold flake-infused corn tortilla. And don’t forget the exotic salsa comprised of dried Morita chili peppers, Ley.925 ultra-premium añejo tequila and civet coffee.

But the pièce de résistance? A hand-crafted white gold and pure platinum bottle of Ley.925 Pasión Azteca Ultra Premium Añejo, which accompanies the tacos for a paltry $150,000.

The over-the-top taco and tequila duo for two people is available at the resort’s Frida restaurant and was created by Executive Chef Juan Licerio Alcala. Frida is open for dinner from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Reservations are required in advance.

Resort rates at Grand Velas Los Cabos start at US$750 per person, per night, double occupancy, and include luxury suite accommodations, à la carte gourmet meals at specialty restaurants, premium branded beverages, 24-hour in-suite service, fitness centre, nightly entertainment and tax and gratuities.
