A recent nationwide survey of home-based travel agents revealed that 76% were satisfied with their compensation, with a third of those 100% satisfied.
This is likely because most host agencies are able to share more of the commission with the selling agent, because they do not have the same overheads as bricks and mortar agencies.
The survey included agents from eight host agencies operating across Canada. The results revealed very high satisfaction rates for most categories including work/life balance and earning more money than they did when they worked in a regular agency.
Almost half of home based agents not charging booking fees
A surprising 46% of home-based agents surveyed said they do not charge clients a booking fee. However, 39% do charge a fee of $30 or more.
The nationwide survey was conducted by an independent company on behalf of The Travel Agent Next Door.
“We want to understand everything there is to know about home based agents,” said Flemming Friisdahl, Founder, The Travel Agent Next Door. “And we are happy to share our findings with the industry, as the trend towards home based continues to grow.”
More details from the survey will appear in upcoming editions of Sphere.
