DUBAI — Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but can the same be said for Luxury?
Every year, the World Luxury Hotel Awards names one lucky hotel as the ‘Most Luxurious Hotel in the World.’ Traditionally, previous winners have been known for their over-the-top opulence, but this year’s winner has divided critics, who’ve raised a few eyebrows over its simplicity and minimalist décor.
So which hotel has been deemed the world’s most luxurious in 2016? The Armani Hotel Dubai, an extravagant hotel situated in Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Featuring 160 guestrooms that occupy the first eight floors of the skyscraper, the hotel may be minimal in design but it certainly boasts some prime real estate.
The judging panel has said that the hotel “reflects the pure elegance, simplicity and sophisticated comfort that defines Giorgio Armani’s signature style.” But many critics are questioning the hotel’s minimalist interior design of its checkerboard-patterned suites, which lack the obvious opulence of its rivals, such as Le Meurice Paris, reports lifestyle blog My Domaine.
