MECCA, SAUDI ARABIA — For the 15 million Muslims who make the pilgrimage to Mecca each year, finding accommodations will soon get a lot easier.

The world’s biggest hotel is being planned for the popular pilgrimage site, complete with 10,000 rooms, 10 towers and 70 restaurants. Named the Abraj Kudai, the US$3.5 billion development is being constructed by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Finance, says Lonely Planet.

Initial impressions of the mega-hotel depict up to four helicopter landing pads, a ballroom and conference hall, plus one of the largest domes in the world. There will also be entire sections that will be closed off to cater only for royalty.

Upon completion, the 1.4 million square-metre complex will break all records, surpassing Malaysia’s First World Hotel which currently has 7,351 rooms across two towers.
