HALIFAX —It’s another miserable, messy start to the weekend across Atlantic Canada.
Air Canada has issued travel alerts for Saint John, Moncton, Halifax and Fredericton, though no flight cancellations on departures have been reported by flightaware.com as of 10:30 EST. However, 5 flights from New York into Halifax have been cancelled.
The website also notes that 141 flights have been cancelled at LaGuardia Airport in New York, 61 at Boston Logan International Airport and 38 at Newark Liberty International Airport.
LaGuardia airport has issues this statement “Due to WEATHER / SNOW-ICE, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving La Guardia Airport, New York, NY (LGA). This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 5 hours and 8 minutes. Because a traffic management program is delaying some arriving flights, departing flight schedules may be affected. Check with your airline to determine if your flight is affected.”

Back up North, Environment Canada is calling for a mixed bag of nasty weather, with everything from winter storm warnings to rainfall warnings in effect across the four provinces.
Significant snowfall is expected today over northern Nova Scotia with heavy rain along the Atlantic coast and Cape Breton.
The rain is expected to change to freezing rain mixed with ice pellets followed by snow as temperatures drop.
Forecasters are suggesting people postpone travel plans if possible today in southern New Brunswick, which is expecting heavy, blowing snow.
Between 20 and 40 centimetres of snow could blanket Prince Edward Island by Saturday morning.
In Newfoundland, forecasters are warning of the possibility of flash floods due to heavy rain that’s expected to last into Saturday.
