GRENADA — A small group of journalists was recently invited to visit the new Sandals LaSource property in Grenada and all agreed it’s the most luxurious Sandals property to date, scaling new heights of luxury for the brand with gorgeous attention to detail, fabulous suites, great views and on-point food.
“Sandals LaSource is the new group standard and sets the stage for all future resorts,” says Adam Stewart, CEO of Sandals Resorts International. “We have built something magical – suites of 1,500 square feet, the best materials money can buy, private pools, Jacuzzis, soaking tubs, rain showerheads, 65” LED televisions and the list goes on and on.”
Marketed as the Sandals of Tomorrow, Sandals LaSource features 225 rooms and suites across three villages – Pink Gin, South Seas and Italian. There are three pools, one of which is a quiet pool, plus two river pools, and even though there resort was at capacity on the media trip, the common areas never felt crowded. The resort has nine restaurants including the first-ever Butch’s Chophouse steakhouse, as well as Sandals favourites such as Café de Paris, Kimonos and Spices. Furthermore, the resort is less than five minutes from the airport.
“Travel agents need to come and experience the property because there are so many corners and interesting features. To really explain it to someone they need to come down and feel it,” says Peter Fraser, General Manager of Sandals LaSource Grenada. “A lot of agents have seen the property already on stopovers on cruise ships, but we will be organizing fams soon.” Agent fam trips are set to start in April.
The property has 20 different room categories among the three different villages. Some of the most luxurious room categories include the Skypool Suites, the Millionaire Suites and the Rondoval Suites – all with butler service. There are 69 all-butler suites, with many of the rooms having some kind of private pool. The property is also dotted with luxury soaking bath tubs on the balconies (though there are some privacy issues still being addressed).
“For travel agents, this is the type of place that earns you extremely good commissions. Travel agents are always looking for new things to sell. They are looking for better quality things to sell and this is the perfect resort for them,” says Gary Sadler, Senior Vice President of Sales North America, Unique Vacations.
Some of the issues guests faced in the first few weeks of opening – such as delays with housekeeping – have been taken care of and the resort now gets rave reviews online.
Grenada is known as the ‘Island of Spice’ because of the abundance of nutmeg, cinnamon and other spices. It’s a picturesque destination with dark blue seas, dramatic bluffs and a charming harbour in the capital of St. George’s. The weather is great year-round and the mountainous landscape and rainforest offer lots of opportunity for outdoor adventure. The island is also very safe, and has a population of just 110,000. Agents with golf clients should know there is only one nine-hole golf course on the island.
“Grenada has everything for a perfect Caribbean island – it is paradise! We’ve got the beaches, the rainforest, the waterfalls and the friendly people, all in a safe environment where we want you to be our guest,” says the Minister of Tourism, Hon. Alexandra Otway-Noel.
Getting to the island direct from Canada is possible on Air Canada or Air Transat. Air Transat flies seasonally once per week, while WestJet flies to nearby Barbados.
“This new Grenada property is a great move and Sandals is an amazing partner. Everywhere there is Sandals, there is Air Canada,” says Zeina Gedeon, Vice President of Sales Canada and Product Distribution, Air Canada. “Since the Sandals property opened we have increased airlift to year-round. It used to be only seasonally.”
There has been extremely high demand for the new Sandals LaSource Grenada property with occupancy running at 80-90% throughout the winter season. Some guests are previous clients of the LaSource property, keen to see what Sandals has done, and the number of UK visitors is also significant. For more information, visit sandals.com.
