Yukon food fest to serve up unique tastes in the land of the midnight sun

WHITEHORSE – Foods of Yukon will be highlighted in a festival that will showcase farms, restaurants and other businesses from the territory.

The third annual Yukon Culinary Festival, running July 30 to Aug. 2, will feature some of the territory’s culinary experts, including Michel Genest, author of “The Boreal Gourmet,” and Carson Schiffkorn, chef at the Inn on the Lake.

The festival will also feature chef Chris Irving, who was born and raised in Yukon and is executive chef at the Gantry Restaurant and Bar in Sydney, Australia; chef Eric Pateman, founder and CEO of Edible Canada in Vancouver; and chef Marco Desmond from the restaurant Starfire in Skagway, Alaska.

Main events at the festival include a picnic on the grounds of the S.S. Klondike National Historic Site in Whitehorse, a gourmet dinner with guest chefs at the Parks Canada Commissioner’s Residence in Dawson City, and a community feast comprised of foods from the region, hosted at Rivendell Farm in Whitehorse.
