One conviction, three charges under Ontario Travel Industry Act

TORONTO — Cynthia Monica Burgher has been convicted on one count of acting as a travel agent without registration contrary to section 4(1)(a) of the Ontario Travel Industry Act, 2002.

Burgher was previously registered under the Act and continued to sell bus charters in Toronto and elsewhere in Ontario after her registration was terminated.

She was fined $4,000.

In a separate case, Esterlina Coyant, Mirta Zamora and Amigo Travel Ltd. have been charged with one count each of failing to maintain trust accounts contrary to section 27 of Regulation 26/05 made under the Ontario Travel Industry Act, 2002. Amigo Travel Ltd. operated in Toronto and elsewhere in Ontario.

The first court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 30, 2014 at 9 a.m. at the Ontario Court of Justice, 70 Centre Avenue, Toronto.
