ROTTERDAM — Holland America Line has officially launched its 2025 Europe cruise season from Rotterdam, with Nieuw Statendam arriving over the weekend to mark the occasion.
For the first time since 2012, the cruise line is homeporting two ships – Nieuw Statendam and Rotterdam – from its historic base in the Netherlands.
The arrival also marked a sustainability milestone, as Nieuw Statendam became the first Holland America Line vessel to connect to the Port of Rotterdam’s new shore power system. The shore power connection is expected to enable up to 29 connections this season, saving an estimated 294 tonnes of fuel and reducing CO2 emissions by 914 tonnes. The port also plans to continue using low carbon intensity biofuel during the summer, following a successful 2024 test that saw an 86% decrease in lifecycle CO2 emissions using one engine.
“It’s always an exciting time when our ships return to Rotterdam, Holland America Line’s historic home – and for the first time in many years, we have two ships homeporting here,” said Nico Bleichrodt, vice president of international sales and marketing for Holland America Line. “We applaud the team at the port on the completion of the shore power project and look forward to working with them for another great cruise season.”
This season, Rotterdam and Nieuw Statendam will offer cruises ranging from seven to 27 days, covering a wide variety of destinations including Scandinavia, Iceland, the Baltics, Central Europe, the British Isles, the Canary Islands and the Mediterranean. Onboard, guests will enjoy Holland America Line’s hallmark service and immersive destination programming.
