Pan Am Games facilities added to downtown Toronto architecture tour

TORONTO – The Toronto Society of Architects has added Pan Am Games facilities to its walking tours kicking off next month.

Among stops on the group’s Culture and Campus tour is the Goldring Centre for High-Performance Sport at the University of Toronto, one of “the remarkable new buildings” erected to host the 2015 Games in July, co-ordinator Marta O’Brien said.

The 2,000-seat indoor arena won an Ontario Association of Architects award of excellence.

This is the TSA’s sixth season of guided walking tours, which run Saturdays and Sundays from May 9 to Oct. 3. The cost is $10.

Three different itineraries are offered, each showcasing 10 to 14 examples of contemporary architecture in downtown Toronto.

“There is something for anyone who appreciates great architecture,” O’Brien said.

City hall and the major bank headquarters are highlighted on the Towers tour, while the Art Gallery of Ontario and TIFF Bell Lightbox are included on the Art and Performance tour. Each tour lasts about two hours.
