What sets UnCruise Adventures apart from other cruise companies? Its experiential nature, for one thing, not to mention its hands-on approach to providing adventurous and authentic voyages to destinations around the world. In this week’s Take 5 interview, we catch up with Joseph Pedro, Senior Marketing and Communications Specialist at UnCruise Adventures to discuss all the ways the company stands out, and how travel advisors can best sell its cruises to their clients.
1. Can you tell us a little about UnCruise Adventures, for travel advisors who aren’t too familiar with the brand?
“UnCruise Adventures began as a dream to offer small-ship, immersive experiences that go beyond the standard cruise itinerary. Our founder, Captain Dan Blanchard, had a vision for intimate and adventurous travel. Today, we’re based in Juneau, Alaska with a satellite office in Seattle, Washington, and we’re proud to operate under the US flag. This not only reflects our commitment to providing exceptional service but also to supporting the US economy through job creation and local partnerships.
“We offer a wide range of destinations, including Alaska, Hawaii, Baja California and Mexico. Starting in 2026, we’re excited to reintroduce Costa Rica to our lineup, expanding our offerings to even more remote, nature-filled regions.”
2. What makes UnCruise Adventures so unique?
“UnCruise Adventures is unique because we focus on small-group, hands-on adventure. Our ships are intimate, carrying between 22 and 86 guests, which allows us to offer more personalized service and access to remote areas that larger cruise lines simply can’t reach. What sets us apart is our commitment to active, responsible travel. Guests can expect daily off-ship explorations like kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, and wildlife watching.
“Being a U.S.-flagged company means we adhere to the highest safety and environmental standards. We’re also proud to be recognized by the industry with numerous awards, including for sustainability and guest experience. Our dedication to conservation and Leave No Trace principles ensures that our adventures leave a positive impact on the natural environments we visit.”
3. Who is your target audience, and how should travel advisors sell UnCruise to them?
“Our target audience includes adventure seekers, families, eco-conscious travellers, and those looking for immersive cultural experiences. UnCruise Adventures caters to travellers who prioritize hands-on exploration, personal connections with nature, and authentic local interactions. Whether it’s our adults-only Adult Escape itineraries or family-focused Kids in Nature sailings, we offer something unique for everyone, from action-packed adventures like kayaking and hiking to educational experiences that inspire curiosity and learning. Our small ships and intimate settings ensure personalized service, allowing guests to experience remote, off-the-beaten-path destinations.
“Travel agents should emphasize the unique, experiential nature of UnCruise, focusing on our sustainable practices, active itineraries, and our US-flagged operation, which guarantees high safety and environmental standards. Highlighting our awards and commitment to conservation will appeal to eco-conscious travellers, while the variety of itineraries, from Alaska to Costa Rica, offers something for every type of explorer. By positioning UnCruise as a boutique alternative to traditional cruises, agents can attract clients seeking meaningful, adventure-filled journeys.”
4. Can you describe a typical day on board an UnCruise itinerary?
“A day aboard an UnCruise Adventure is anything but typical. Mornings may start with coffee on the deck, watching the sunrise over remote waters, followed by a hearty breakfast made with fresh, local ingredients. Depending on the day’s itinerary, guests might embark on a guided hike through Alaska’s temperate rainforests, kayak through secluded bays, or snorkel among vibrant coral reefs in Baja California.
“Afternoons often include more adventures, or guests can simply relax and enjoy the surroundings from the ship. Evenings are social, with dinner reflecting regional flavors and followed by presentations from our expert guides or quiet stargazing on deck. Flexibility is key, as we adjust plans to maximize wildlife encounters or other natural phenomena.”
5. How can travel advisors learn more about your services, and what upcoming initiatives should they be aware of?
“Travel agents can explore UnCruise Adventures’ offerings by visiting our official website, uncruise.com, which provides comprehensive details on itineraries, destinations, and the unique experiences we offer. To further assist agents, we have developed a dedicated Travel Partner Portal. This portal offers a wealth of resources, including marketing materials, destination information, and training tools to support your efforts in promoting our cruises.
“We are committed to empowering our partners with the necessary tools and knowledge, and we encourage agents to utilize these resources to enhance their understanding and promotion of UnCruise Adventures. Additionally, we have webinars, training sessions, and new destination rollouts like Costa Rica in 2026 and our exciting new Adult Escape: Northern Passages with Glacier Bay & Sitka itinerary coming soon. Keep an eye out for updates and opportunities to engage with us!”
