Kentucky’s Newest Bourbon Experiences

As the birthplace of bourbon, Kentucky produces 95% of the world’s supply. With more than 11.4 million aging barrels, there are now 2 barrels for every Kentucky resident. Bourbon truly is more than a drink in Kentucky, it’s a way of life. Bourbon is booming, with distilleries and businesses expanding and enhancing visitors’ experiences to offer a little something for everyone. Whether you’re a bourbon aficionado or new to the spirit, there’s a bourbon experience for you here in the Bluegrass State. Check out the newest bourbon attractions below!

The Last Refuge: Louisville

Heaven’s Door, the whiskey brand co-created by Bob Dylan, opened the Last Refuge, a tasting room and event space inside a 150-year-old former church in Louisville’s NuLu neighborhood. Billed as a “High Church of Bourbon,” The Last Refuge not only features a world class bourbon bar with expertly prepared cocktails, but it has a spacious barroom and outdoor patio. Don’t forget to check out the food menu to go along with that artisanal old fashioned.

 

Mattingly 1845 Distillery: Frankfort

Named for the inventor of the column still, J. Mattingly 1845 Distillery, which first opened its doors in 2023, has offered bourbon enthusiasts an immersive experience in the world of bourbon making. Not only can you book a tasting in the Mattingly’s rustic, yet modern tasting room, but you can also blend your own whiskey. 

 

Buzzard’s Roost Whiskey Row Experience: Louisville

Located in downtown Louisville, Buzzard’s Roost Sipping Whiskey offers a wide array of tours and experiences. Don’t miss out on fun and educational tastings like the whiskey and chocolate tasting, where guests learn the ins and outs of pairing bourbon with chocolate. 

 

New Riff Distilling: Newport

In early 2024, New Riff Distilling unveiled its new location for  a rooftop bar, dubbed Aquifer, that offers unfettered view of the Ohio River. Previously located on New Riff’s first floor, Aquifer’s new location on the roof features features cocktails, flights, and award-winning spirits to go along with a gorgeous view of the river and Northern Kentucky.

 

Monk’s Road Boiler House – Louisville

Owned and operated by Log Still Distillery, this high end restaurant and merges a fine dining experiences with the history and tradition of bourbon distilling. In addition to its gourmet menu, Monk’s is also home to a speakeasy that offers an extensive array of cocktails. 

 

Bardstown Bourbon Company – Louisville Tasting Room

After establishing itself as a premier bourbon distillery in Bardstown, BBC set its sites on Derby City and opened Louisville Tasting Room. This bourbon spot features highly interactive education and tasting experiences, innovative craft cocktails, augmented reality and immersive digital environments, and of course, curated retail merchandise and exclusive bottles.
