VANCOUVER — A sunny day at Vancouver’s Botanist restaurant provided an excellent backdrop for Portugal’s Savoy Signature Hotels to share the latest news about their luxury properties on Madeira Island.
The hotel group’s Chief Commercial Officer, Ricardo Madias Farinha, kicked off his presentation at the media luncheon with accolades: “The latest Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards honoured the Savoy Palace, which was chosen as the second best hotel in Portugal. We’ve made the list for six consecutive years.”
In addition to media guests, Joao Paulo Costa, the Consul General of the Consulate General of Portugal in Vancouver, was also present. In the evening Farinha hosted an intimate dinner with local travel advisors at Parq Vancouver’s Honey Salt restaurant.
Savoy Signature has five properties in the capital city of Funchal and two properties in Calheta, in the southwestern region of the island.

Madeira Island, nicknamed the ‘garden isle of the Atlantic’, is well-known for its outdoor offerings including surfing, whale watching, hiking and mountain biking, as well as for its cuisine and its most famous product, Madeira wine.
Madeira is an hour and a half flight from Lisbon, and since June 1, Azores Airlines has introduced a new direct flight from Toronto (YYZ) to Funchal (FNC) and added Toronto to Porto (OPO) direct flights on June 7; both are in operation for the summer season until September. Azores Airlines will also be adding connections from Boston to Funchal and Porto and New York City to Porto.
Farinha shared details of the hotel group’s latest addition, their sixth hotel – The Reserve – which opened Jan. 15 as the first ‘hotel within a hotel’ in Europe. Located within the existing Savoy Palace Hotel, The Reserve is bespoke accommodation with 40 rooms and suites all located above the 12th floor, with a 24-hour Guest Experience Personal Assistant affiliated with each room to ensure a guest’s stay exceeds expectations, whether that means accessing amenities within the hotel or anywhere on island.
Reserve Guests are pampered from arrival to departure, with VIP access to and from Madeira International Airport, early check-in and late check-out, exclusive entry to the Jacaranda Club for dining and lounging and customized surprises during their stay. Additional options include Dining With You customized in-room dining, Pool Breakfast, en-suite couples massage and an Atlantic cruise on the private yacht Explorer.
Guests can indulge in five-star Savoy Palace’s amenities including the Laurea Spa, seven restaurants and three bars, including Galaxia Skybar, named for the Galaxia, the popular nightclub within the 1912 Savoy Classic Hotel, the predecessor to the Savoy Palace.
The Savoy Signature collection also includes oceanfront Royal Savoy, adults-only Gardens Hotel, millennial-styled NEXT, wellness-focused Saccharum and all-inclusive Calheta Beach.
